Baritone Alfredo Beltrán is a freelance professional singer, originally from Syracuse, NY, but he is currently based in the Albuquerque, NM area. Alfredo received a Bachelor of Music degree in voice performance from the University of New Mexico, studying under Baritone Michael Hix, and a Master of Music degree in voice performance from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, studying under Baritones Raymond Feener and Dale Morehouse.
On the stage, Alfredo has performed both opera and concert work as both a soloist and chorister. Some previous roles Alfredo has performed include Vicar Gedge in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Top in Aaron Copland's The Tender Land, Papageno in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Gianni Schicchi in Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Masetto in Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Benoît and Alcindoro in Puccini's La bohème. Some of Alfredo's previous solo concert work includes singing the bass/baritone solos in G.H. Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach's Magnificat, Mozart's Requiem, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Gioachino Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, and numerous Bach Cantatas, including BWV 7, BWV 62, BWV 70, and BWV 140.
In the Albuquerque area, Alfredo has worked with numerous performing groups, including Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico, Quintessence: A Community of Singers, Opera on Tap New Mexico, Chatter ABQ, Friends of Music of the Episcopal Cathedral of St John, the Music Ministries at St John's United Methodist Church, the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus, ABQ Coro Lux, Opera Southwest, and the UNM Opera Theatre Program. Outside of the Albuquerque area, Alfredo has worked as a guest artist with La Frontera Opera with Borderland Arts Foundation in Las Cruces, NM, the New Mexico State University’s Music Department in Las Cruces, NM, the Durango Bach Festival with the San Juan Symphony Chamber Singers (formerly the Durango Chamber Singers) in Durango, CO, Heartland Opera Theatre in Joplin, MO, Opera in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, AR, and Varna International in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.
As a big aficionado of English Art Songs (particular those by Ralph Vaughan Williams, George Butterworth, Ivor Gurney, and Gerald Finzi, Alfredo actively works to continue research and performance of these art songs, with hopes to do Doctoral work in the near future in the subject.
